Sacramento- Jessie has a long and complicated story, so I hope you take the time to read how this girl came to be a part of Recycled Pets NorCal. While at the adoption event at Pet Food Express Roseville on Saturday, one of our supporters came up with this dog. She said a homeless man said he was just going to release her on the streets unless she took her, and she needed advice on what to do with her. Events are always crazy busy, and oftentimes not the time to ask me any thing (blame it on the ADHD), but I stopped and really focused on this fat dog ( started with a great website that has tips for rehoming dogs (http://www.keepyourpet.com/rehoming-your-pet/) and I couldn't believe this fat and shiny dog was owned by a homeless person. We talked about which shelter would be appropriate and then I did a little behavior evaluation to see if she would likely be considered adoptable at the shelter, and she passed. Then I heard the dogs name, and it sent my brain spinning. I asked again what the dog's name was and she told me "Jezebel." I just looked at her and asked "what happened to his boxer" and tears filled her eyes. He was old and was put to sleep a few weeks ago. This is when I realized why she liked me and I liked her so much, I have known this dog most of her life. I work a lot with homeless dog owners in Downtown and this one in particular I have spent a lot of resources on dealing with parasites and ear infections and mites. I hadn't seen this family recently. I knew then I couldn't let her go to the shelter, but not sure who could take her. Then I asked my favorite Bully foster and she said she could! She already has a super full house of fosters, but she figured what was one more? We are grateful for Ginny and all she does for the bull breeds!

She needs a diet and think gluten free food would help with the consistent ear issues. We put her on the same food we had Wanda on FirstMate Pet Foods makes a gluten free senior/weight control food that we are going to use to see if that helps her slim down and make sure her ears continue to look good. She is spayed (and was one of the times her human went to jail and she ended up at the shelter), and will be microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and dewormed. She is maybe 4 years old, and we forgot to weigh her yesterday but I think a healthy weight for her would be about 50 pounds (she is probably 75 pounds now). Foster mom says she is doing amazing, already integrated in the pack, playing with Stella the bully puppy and took to crate training really well. I think she is just happy to have a home. Growing up on the streets is rough, so a little bit of pampering is pretty amazing to her. And she deserves it!
