Sacramento- Elki is an energetic black German Shepherd (shelter thought perhaps border collie) mix.  She is about 55 pounds and is just amazingly beautiful. She is an energetic girl who will need a home where she will get exercise and training. She loves to be with people and is anxious being separated.  She is crate trained and calm in there.  We believe she was an outside dog before and she wants to be with a family so much.  Because her lack of socialization and basic training she will be best in a home without small children whom she might knock over with her enthusiasm.  She gets excited and can jump up- nothing exercise and basic obedience won't help.  She is currently living with dog savvy children (one young).  She seems a little too interested in cats, so might be best in a home without small animals.  I am notified by the shelter that she can also jump a 6 foot fence, so it is important that adopters understand that she is not a dog who can be left outside unattended.  She has shown no interest in jumping out of the foster home fencing however and just wants to come back inside the house!  I think she would enjoy agility work or a job.  She is spayed,  up to date on vaccines (rabies, dhpp and bordetella) and tested negative for heartworms and is on preventative.  You can find our process and apply online at: http://recycledpetsnorcal.org/adoption-process/

Update... in a few short days she has made vast improvements in crate training and general house manners!  She walks beautifully on a leash and is also an excellent running partner.   She is learning to play fetch which is an excellent outlet for her energy.  We are still working on not chasing kitties and not getting jealous of the other dogs in the house as she really wants all the attention herself.  She really is a very smart girl.  She has found a new interest in chewing on antlers and playing with toys!
