Sacramento - Lucky Lucy was rescued after being dumped on an island in the delta. Her neck had overgrown a rope collar; witnesses saw two men drag her out of a truck, cut the collar and rip it off her neck. She was very traumatized (by at least that, and who knows what else), and terrified of men. In the beginning, she was a puddle of fear.

That was two months ago, and today Lucky Lucy is a new dog! She has recovered from her neck injury, been spayed and has enjoyed 10 days of professional training to help overcome her anxieties and regain her confidence. She even has a health insurance policy that will transfer to her new owner!

She is a bit shy around new people, especially men, but it doesn’t take her long to warm up. She is very bonded with her foster mom, but we are confident that she will quickly bond with her new person. She is a very sensitive dog, and will take some time to get used to a new home, but we know you will find her worth every minute of your patience!

Once Lucky Lucy is comfortable in her home, she is quite playful and outgoing. She is very athletic, loves water and would make a great hiking or jogging companion. She gets along nicely with other dogs, both large and small – at first she is very shy and submissive around them (and may give a growl out of fear), but gradually learns to trust and like them. She has shown no aggression towards anyone – human or animal. She has been good around outdoor cats, chickens, horses, and goats – but of course, proper introduction and supervision is always recommended.

She walks nicely on a leash, is housebroken and crate trained. She has learned to sit quietly while you put on your shoes to get ready for her walks. She also is good at staying on her “place” (a doggie coolaroo bed); continued practice of her newly learned skills will help her be a well-behaved member of the family.
